In the Courts

Federal courts in Kentucky, New York, and Pennsylvania have become the latest courts to dismiss the US Department of Justice’s lawsuits to obtain sensitive voter data.
A federal appeals court ruled in favor of voting rights organizations, including the League of Women Voters, seeking to protect Colorado voters from intimidation.
LWV issued an urgent call to action following a 6-3 Supreme Court decision on Trump v. Barbara, warning that the razor-thin margin should alarm every American.
Voting rights groups, including LWV, filed a renewed request for a preliminary injunction to block an executive order restricting mail-in ballots.
A US District Court in Massachusetts ruled that nonpartisan voting rights groups have standing to move forward with a challenge to President Trump’s executive order restricting mail-in voting.
LWV issued a statement regarding the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit declining to block President Trump’s executive order on mail voting.

Securing Our Elections

LWV condemned President Trump’s removal of Election Assistance Commission commissioners, reiterating that doing so is a direct attack on the independence of our nation's election infrastructure.
LWV strongly denounced President Trump’s false, outlandish, and indefensible claims related to the security of US elections, in yet another attempt to undermine elections and suppress voter turnout.
Plaintiffs in League of Women Voters v. US Department of Homeland Security asked the US District Court of the District of Columbia to enforce its judgment ordering the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system dismantled.
The ACLU, on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Kansas, provided notice of the State of Kansas’ potential violations of various provisions of House Bill 2437’s potential noncompliance with the National Voter Registration Act.

Happening at the League

LWV announced its newly elected national leadership for the 2026–2028 biennium, with Sania Irwin at the helm as president of the national Board of Directors.
State and local Leagues throughout all 50 states and Washington, DC will host more than 350 events, as part of the mobilization on August 8 for the League’s Unite & Rise for Voting Rights Day of Action.
The League is proud to announce that Chief Operating Officer Ellen Hobby has been named the 2026 Nonprofit CFO of the Year for a Mid-Sized Nonprofit.
